About the Instructor:

Katherine Lee received her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Master of Music (MM) degrees in piano performance from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied with Anton Nel. As a full scholarship student and a graduate student instructor, she taught group piano classes and individual piano lessons at UT Austin for five years. At UT, she was honored with awards such as “best graduate student recital of the year” and “best chamber music performance of the year”. In Texas, Katherine also taught at Baylor University as an adjunct faculty member. Prior to her studies in Texas, she received a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in piano performance at USC, studying with John Perry and Norman Krieger. Her main pre-college piano teachers are Hans Boepple and Jed Galant.

Katherine has participated in the U.S. Chopin Competition in Miami, the Aspen Music Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and was a featured soloist with the Wintergreen Music Festival Orchestra in Virginia. A Young Artist Guild alumna of MTAC,
Katherine has won numerous piano competitions such as the Music Teachers
National Association (MTNA) California state competition in both the collegiate and the high-school divisions and the MTAC state concerto competition. She also appeared as a soloist with the California Youth Symphony and the El Camino Youth Symphony.  Katherine loves chamber music and has had extensive experience in chamber music performance. Aspiring to provide opportunities of playing chamber music to local young musicians, she founded Happy Notes Music Camp, a summer chamber music day camp, in her hometown of Fremont in 2003 and served as its director for many years.

Following the completion of her doctoral degree in May 2010, Katherine returned to the Bay Area to teach in her growing piano studio in Fremont as well as at the Amabile School of Music in San Francisco. She has also joined Music at the Mission, a chamber music series in the Tri-City area, as a board member, chamber musician, and coordinator of its student chamber music festival, ChamberFest! Katherine is excited to be devoting herself to the Bay Area music community through teaching and performance.
